Synthol: Overview, Uses, Benefits, and Risks

What Synthol Is

Synthol is a site enhancement oil (SEO) used by some bodybuilders to artificially increase the apparent size of specific muscles. It is not an anabolic steroid or performance-enhancing drug " rather, it is a localized cosmetic filler. The typical composition of Synthol includes:
• 85% medium-chain triglyceride oil (MCT oil)
• 7.5% lidocaine (a local anesthetic)
• 7.5% benzyl alcohol (a preservative)

When injected into muscle tissue, the oil disperses between muscle fibers, causing the muscle to swell in size.

Why It’s Used

Synthol is primarily used for aesthetic purposes in bodybuilding. The main motivations include:
• Enhancing muscle symmetry " to correct visual imbalances between muscle groups.
• Increasing muscle fullness " especially in muscles that are resistant to growth (e.g., biceps, triceps, calves).
• Creating visual impact on stage or in photos " providing a more dramatic, “3D” look to specific muscles.

Professional athletes rarely use Synthol openly; it is more commonly seen in amateur or exhibition contexts.

Perceived Benefits

From a superficial standpoint, users report:
• Immediate muscle volume increase after injection.
• Temporary enhancement of definition and fullness, particularly when combined with existing muscle density.
• No systemic hormonal effects, unlike anabolic agents.

However, these effects are purely visual and temporary. Synthol does not contribute to strength, muscle growth, or performance.

Synthol is a touchy subject but used correctly for small lagging spots it has its place. The key is micro-dosing properly over weeks not jumping straight to big volumes.

I personally know big bodybuilders (some are IFBB Pro) who use it.
It has very bad reputation because of the bad use of dodgy stuff (South America, Russia, ect…).
If taken properly, legit and clean stuff, with the right protocol, noticeable change will be made without attracting the question of synthol involvement or not.
Even if the solution is temporarily, the product stay between the muscle fibers, et the fact you need to keep injecting in the area (you wants to grow), the risk might be higher than just injecting gears

Yeah the reputation is mostly from the horror stories - guys injecting random oil into their arms and ending up with lopsided messes on YouTube. The pros who actually know what they're doing keep volumes small, rotate sites consistently, and only use pharmaceutical-grade product. The difference in end result is night and day from the extreme cases you see online. If the muscle base is already there and you're filling in weak points at competition level, done right it's subtle enough nobody can call it.
