View Full Version : First time pinning next week, what is the actual pre-pin routine nobody mentions in the videos?

First pin scheduled for next week and after watching about 20 videos I'm realising they all skip the parts I'm actually nervous about. Got my test E ready, 23g 1 inch pins for the delt, alcohol swabs, the lot. What I cannot find anywhere is the practical pre-pin routine, like do you warm the oil, what do you do if blood comes back on aspiration, and what does PIP feel like the first day so I know if it's normal. Going for the rear delt first because it seems the easiest target. Any first hand advice from people who remember being this nervous would be appreciated.

On the blood return question because that's what throws first timers, if you pull back on the plunger and see red in the syringe just stop, withdraw, and start fresh with a new pin in a slightly different spot. Don't try to push through it or angle around inside the muscle. First time it happens you'll panic but it's just a reset, no real harm.

Glutes and delts are easier than quads for the first runs because you can see the site without bending. 1 inch 23g for delts, 1.5 inch for upper outer glute. Push slowly, count to 30 on the plunger, and never reuse a pin even if you've only hit the rubber stopper twice.

Adding to the advice above, keep the needle perpendicular at 90 degrees on the way in, not slanted. Clean the site with an alcohol swab and let it dry fully before pinning, the alcohol works as it evaporates not while it's wet. You'll be fine, the first pin is always the most nervous one.

One thing nobody mentions - go slow on the plunger. I mean really slow. Most guys rush it because they're nervous and that alone causes more pip than anything else. I aim for at least 30 seconds per ml, sometimes longer for thicker compounds. Your muscle needs time to accept the oil. Once I slowed down my injections the post-injection soreness basically halved.

Good advice in here. The one thing I would add - warm the oil before you draw. Room temperature is not warm enough. Hold the vial in your hand for five minutes or run it under warm water. Makes a real difference on the first few sessions.

One thing that made a big difference for me early on was having a sharps bin sorted before the first pin, not after. Sounds stupid but scrambling to figure out disposal when you've already got a used needle in your hand is more stress than it needs to be. Small red bin from a pharmacy, most will hand them over no questions. Makes the whole thing feel less improvised too.

Relax the muscle before you go in, that's the one thing nobody really covers. When you're nervous the first few times you'll tense without realising it, and tensed muscle is exactly what makes the pin feel rough. For delts, breathe out slowly and let the arm drop loose before you push. For quads, actually sit and let the leg go completely limp. Gets easier once you've done it a few times but that first-pin tension is real.

One thing nobody mentions is what to do if the oil just won't go in smoothly. If you're pushing hard and feeling real resistance, stop and pull out. Either the needle tip is slightly bent from hitting the vial stopper wrong on draw, or you've gone slightly into scar tissue. Switch to a fresh pin and go again. Forcing it is how you get a sore lump for a week.

Good thread, useful stuff in here. One thing worth adding - if you get redness that spreads from the injection site, or a hard lump with heat that is not going away after a few days, that is not normal PIP. That is a sign to see a doctor sooner rather than later. Rare, but happens, and catching it early matters. Most PIP resolves within 2-3 days. Anything beyond that with those signs, get it checked.

If PIP hits bad the next day, warm shower and move the muscle around gently. I spent my first few cycles rubbing sore spots like it would help - it doesn't, if anything it makes it worse. Just pin on schedule regardless, skipping a pin because your leg hurts makes the next one worse not better.
