Finnaly had a day off sunny Sunday. I have 3 boys 9, 12 & 15 i turned down surfing.Beach day. Didn't think a little surf board and a 115kg 183CM bodybuilder would work well got sick of throwing ball to for dog so i took a 9ry old on in a 100M running race. What was i thinking! Coupple of stides in and bang i dropped hard. I told everyone i hve snapped it but was told na it would be hanging there. I knew it was fuct. Mnaday went stupid small town NZ docd and was told keep eye on it come back next week fuck it was a mess. Finay got ultra sound then put in cast with foot just squareish not pointed. Two weeks later they cutting cast off and tell me i to be carefull full rupture really bad and i never be the same. WTF!!!! i spun out demanded i see an orthopedic surgeon. Wife crying as my left tendon sore too. But got appointmnet. MRI first then appointment. Told i had 20mm gap and i was rite all along full rupture and had lost 6 weeks and needed surgery to fix. So had that last monday.
I have as said 3 boys, 3 different schools and a used car sales business that needs me to run it. What a fuck up! I have full ruptured my left pec from heavy flat bb bench. Two back opperations but holly shit this is a night mare. stupd crutches and a dumb knee scooter and a full year before back prob 90% good
Loosing money wife upset. Gutted. I normally bed early old man 47 yr old streches then workout then go work being 6 different hats sales/mechanic/groomer/buyer/admin then try multiple kids sports and try be up beat happy and positive but far out this got me.

Brutal mate, sorry to hear it. Achilles is one of the worst injuries at our size, 115kg coming down into a sprint is exactly the recipe for it. Have they told you yet if it's a full rupture or partial tear? If it's a complete rupture and you want to keep lifting properly long term most orthopods will push for surgical repair, conservative management tends to leave you with weak push off and you'll feel it every time you squat. Timeline wise you are looking at months not weeks before you walk properly, closer to a year before you trust it under any real load. BPC-157 has a solid rep on here for tendon healing, 250-500mcg subQ twice daily for 6 weeks minimum, plenty of members run it through the recovery and reckon it shortens the timeline meaningfully. Upper body work seated is still on the table for now, do not let the head go dark on you. Keep us posted on what the surgeon says.

Full rupture with 15 - 20mm gap on MRI scan
Opted for surgical intervention to maintain achillies power

PROCEDURE:
Patient consented and informed of potential risks and complications. Positioned
Prone
on table withsupportive bolsters, and foot pumps. Tourniquet infl ated to 300mgHg.
Longitudinal incision was made over the Achilles tendon on the medial side. Sharp dissection with fullthickness fl aps were established down onto the paratenon. Paratenon was then incised longitudinally andrefl ected off the tendon in a fragmented sleave due to trauma. The location of the injury was establishedand a full release of the tendon was performed freeing up adhesions.
The tendon was then shortened with a v-wedge of tissue removing scar tissue back to stable tissue andusing a #2 VICRYL the ends were then whipstitched to form a 4-strand Krakow repair which was tied withthe foot in plantarfl exion. An epit-endinous repair was then performed with 2.0 VICRYL. The ankle tensionwas then compared to the other side and felt to be satisfactory with some marginally increased restingtension. The paratenon was then meticulous repaired with satisfactory coverage of the tendon.
Wound infi ltrated with 20ml 0.5% Marcaine + Adrenaline, irrigated with normal saline solution, then closedin layers. Dressings and back slab applied

POST-OPERATIVE INSTRUCTIONS:
Routine observations.
Non-weight-bearing using crutches or scooter
No further antibiotics
VTE prophylaxis with Aspirin for six weeks
Wound review and transition to moon boot with wedges at Hamilton Orthopaedics
27/05/2026.
Physiotherapy to be arranged to start at around 4-6 weeks post-surgery to start on gentle AROM andsubtalar motion.
Discharge when comfortable

Brutal injury mate, full rupture with a gap that size surgical was the right call if you want your push off power back. The surgery is the easy part though, it's the next 6 months of rehab that really decides how it heals. Once the wound is closed get some BPC-157 and TB-500 on hand, BPC at 250-500mcg a day and TB around 2-5mg twice a week is what most of the lads here run for tendon work and it genuinely speeds up the soft tissue recovery. Whatever you do don't rush the loading, follow your surgeon's protocol on range of motion and weight bearing or you risk a re-rupture. Heal up and keep us posted.
