Trying a recomp at maintenance calories, how do you actually structure the compounds for it?

Been sitting here trying to decide whether to cut or bulk this run and honestly I just want to hold my weight and let the gear do the work. Not trying to get fatter and not trying to strip down, just a proper recomp at maintenance while I lean out and add some quality. Anyone here actually structure a cycle around this goal rather than just defaulting to a surplus or deficit?

I know people say recomps are slow. I get that. I am fine with it. What I want to know is which compounds actually suit it. I am thinking a moderate test base, maybe 400 to 500mg, and something dry on top. Primo has come up a few times when I have searched. Mast also. Not sure whether to lean toward one or throw both at it.

Would be good to hear from guys who have actually done a proper recomp cycle rather than just answered the question in theory.

Var fits a recomp better than most give it credit for. Low dose, 40 to 50mg is plenty, it doesn't need a surplus to do something useful. Strength holds, slow dry tissue comes on, and it won't bloat you out at maintenance calories. Run fish oil because lipids take a hit, but it's mild compared to other orals. The harder part is accepting the mirror barely moves for weeks at a time while the tape is actually changing - most guys can't sit still long enough to see what a proper recomp delivers.

Good thread. The point about diet consistency is often overlooked - the compounds tilt nutrient partitioning but they do not replace a disciplined maintenance intake. Recomps on gear work well when the fundamentals are already solid.
